This Chardonnay has been harvested from our “Siwa” vineyard – the home vineyard of Kellybrook Winery in the Yarra Valley. Siwa is the original name that Alfred Kelly gave the Kellybrook property on Fulford Road at Wonga Park that he and Inez bought in back in 1935. He named it such because of its beauty and sense of peacefulness which was like that of the Egyptian Oasis called Siwa in the Western desert where he rested during the Second World War. We have named our vineyard, planted in 1975, “Siwa”, in honour of this history.

The appearance is straw with green tinges. 

The aroma shows fruit notes of grapefruit, cantaloupe and green apples. Flint notes combine with oak tones of toasted marshmallow, Crème Brûlée and toasted brioche. Higher tones of honeysuckle, lemongrass and cumin add an elegant layer of complexity. 

The palate is soft and plump. There are notes of green apple, white peach, cantaloupe and cumquat pith notes with notes of freshly squeezed limes. Almond kernel notes are also present. While quite elegant, this wine packs a dense textural element which culminates on the finish; providing length and enjoyment. 

Drink this wine with rich and hearty dishes, such as French-style roasted chicken with a butter and thyme sauce resting on roasted root vegetables, or spice roasted pumpkin, shallots, walnuts and Persian fetta. The wine shall further improve 3 – 5 years from vintage.
